MAN CHARGED AFTER CAR ACCIDENT THAT LEFT PASSENGER SERIOUSLY INJURED
A 27-year-old man was jailed earlier this month following a crash where his passenger was ejected and seriously injured, reported police. The passenger was taken to a nearby Intensive Care Unit at a Trauma Center.
It is still unclear if the passenger was released from the hospital. Police said that Christopher Noakes, who at the time of the accident was driving the golf cart, had a blood alcohol content level that was twice the limit of the legal driving limit. In Florida, the legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08 (which on average is about 3 drinks.)
Noaks, from Ottawa Canada, was charged with driving under the influence with serious bodily harm. Noaks was released on Sept. 2 from the Indian River County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
Vero Beach police responded to a single-vehicle wreck on Sept. 1 on Fiddlewood Road. Police learned that the passenger fell out of the golf cart as the driver made a sharp left turn from Indian River Drive East onto Fiddlewood Road.
When police arrived on the scene the passenger was unconscious but still breathing, reports show. The passenger was rushed to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce with severe head injuries.
Police spoke to Noakes who admitted to partaking in drinking before the incident occurred. Officers said Noaks smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot and glossy eyes, reports show.
VERO BEACH MAN KILLED IN WEEKEND CRASH IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY
A 28-year-old driver from Vero Beach was involved in a single-vehicle wreck where the car flipped over causing fatal injuries.
The single-vehicle wreck occurred around 1:25 a.m. on U.S. 1 and North 25th Street in Fort Pierce. Troopers said he was traveling in a sedan traveling northbound on U.S. 1 approaching an intersection.
For an unknown reason, the man lost control of his car, which struck and traveled over a concrete curb on the southwest corner of the intersection reports show. The front of the car collided with a utility traffic signal pole, causing the vehicle to rotate in a clockwise direction.
Causing the side of the car to collide with a pedestrian signal post in the crosswalk, causing the vehicle to flip onto the roof.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers reported. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Police are not releasing the man's name due to privacy.
PEDESTRIAN MAN KILLED IN JUPITER HIT-AND-RUN
Police report that a man was struck and fatally injured after an unknown driver fled the scene.
The incident occurred just around 11:50 p.m. on the southbound lanes of Alternate A1A, just south of Indiantown road.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
Police report that they currently do not have any information on the driver or what kind of vehicle struck the pedestrian.
DUI DRIVER KILLED IN WEST PALM BEACH
A 19-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning when he lost control of his car near Palm Beach International Airport after crashing into a power pole.
Luis Manuel Lopez of West Palm Beach was driving west on the 2100 block of Belvedere Road west of Australian Avenue just after 4 a.m. when he struck the center median with his 2020 Toyota Corolla then proceeded to hit a guardrail in the next median, Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office reports.
Lopez’s car then re-entered the westbound lanes of Belvedere Road with two flat driver-side tires, then struck a north-side curb before leaving the road and hitting a concrete electric pole.
Deputies report that he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was taken to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.
TWO WOMEN KILLED, HUSBANDS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN ACCIDENT NEAR BOYNTON BEACH
On a recent Saturday evening, two women were killed and their husbands were seriously injured after a horrific car accident near Boynton Beach.
The crash occurred at around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of La Chalet Boulevard and Military Trail.
The sheriff's office said that Edward Floyd, 53, of Boynton Beach, was driving a 1977 Mercury Sable southbound on Military Trail approaching La Chalet Boulevard when Jerry Lapenson, 90, of Boynton Beach was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima traveling northbound on Military Trail made a left turn in front of the Mercury.
The two rear-seat females in the Nissan, Rosalaind Lapenson, 81, and Irene Siegel, 82, were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver and passenger in the Nissan were taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The driver in the Mercury was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
