WHAT TYPE OF CAR INSURANCE DO I NEED? DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH COVERAGE?

The minimum requirements for auto insurance coverage in Florida are:

  • $10,000 for personal injury protection (PIP)

  • $10,000 for property damage liability (PDL)

PROPERTY DAMAGEIf you are found at fault, this benefit covers the other person’s vehicle.  This is mandatory coverage in the State of Florida.
COLLISIONIt covers property damage to your vehicle regardless of who is at fault. This is optional coverage in Florida, and a deductible may apply.PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION (PIP)

If you are involved in a car accident, regardless of who is at fault, your P.I.P covers:

  • 80% of your medical expenses

  • 60% of your lost wages

To claim the PIP benefits, you must receive treatment within 14 days of the crash. PIP covers medical services, medication, surgery and hospital costs, tests and diagnostics, ambulatory services, lost wages, and death benefits. The P.I.P benefit covers you, your spouse, and other relatives in the household.

MEDICAL PAY OR MEDPAY

Medical payments (MP) are similar to PIP and is an optional coverage in the State of Florida. It covers medical expenses for the insured, other policyholders, passengers, and household members.

Med Pay covers the remaining 20 percent of your medical bills that personal injury protection (PIP) coverage does not, as well as any medical expenses beyond the $10,000 personal injury protection limit.

BODILY INJURYIf you are found at fault for the car crash, the bodily injury liability coverage helps pay for the medical expenses and lost income, and pain and suffering the other driver(s) accrued as a result of their injuries. This coverage may also help pay for your legal fees if you're taken to court over the accident.NEW UNINSURED MOTORIST

Uninsured motorist coverage helps pay for your medical bills or car repairs if you're hit by a driver who is not insured or underinsured. In other words, If someone causes an accident that creates more damage than their insurance policy covers, under-insured motorist coverage will protect you for the difference.

Uninsured motorist covers your medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and any legal fees.
