Car Accident That Killed Motorcyclist Brings DUI Manslaughter Charge for Boca Raton Man

A 59-year-old Boca Raton man is facing a DUI manslaughter charge after a car accident along Yamato Road that killed a motorcyclist. Separate blood draws show that on the night of the accident Eric Brown died, showed Miguel Oduardo had blood-alcohol levels of 0.206 and 0.140, both above Florida's legal threshold of 0.08 for intoxication, police reported. Circuit Judge Kirk Volker set Oduardo’s bail at $50,000 during a hearing at the Palm Beach County Jail. Judge Volker also ordered that Oduardo be placed on house arrest and fitted with an ankle monitor upon his release. According to an arrest report, the car accident took place at about 8 p.m. as Oduardo was attempting to turn left from eastbound Yamato Road onto northbound northwest With Avenue, near Interstate 95. Police investigators say Orduardo failed to yield as he turned, crashing his Toyota Tundra pickup into Brown’s westbound Kawasaki motorcycle and throwing Brown off his bike onto the pavement. The bike was lying in the middle of the road when a second vehicle struck it. First responders reported to the car accident and took Brown, 40, of Boca Raton to Delray Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries. Neither Oduardo or the second driver was injured. Oduardo, listed in the accident report to be the owner of a fencing company, told investigators that he drank a couple of beers at a friend's house that evening after working all day at a construction site. He reported driving home at the time of the fatal car accident. Oduardo claims that he did not see any vehicle or headlights as he was turning. An officer noted that Oduardo’s eyes appeared to be “red and glassy” and that his speech was slurred. His breath smelled of alcohol, the report said. 

Boca Bridges Accident Sends Pregnant Woman To Hospital By Chopper

A woman, eight months pregnant, was wearing a seatbelt as her vehicle impacted a tree in the community of Boca Bridges. She ended up being airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center. The one-car accident occurred in the area of Espresso Manor and Sauvignon Parkway which is in the new Boca Raton Community. It was not immediately clear what specifically happened or caused the car accident. The investigation is underway.  The victim was rushed to West Boca High School where a Trauma Hawk Helicopter used the field as a landing zone. The pregnant victim was then transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center which is considered to be the regional “expert” facility for trauma involving pregnancies. 

Woman Critically Injured By Hit-And-Run In Lake Worth Beach

A Lake Worth Beach woman was critically injured when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver a couple of weeks ago while deputies continue to search for the driver. At 8:15 p.m., a 1997 Ford F-150 with tag number LYWA01 was traveling wast bound on 10th Avenue N. Approaching the intersection of Boutwell Road in Lake Worth Beach. Stacey Abo, 65, was on foot attempting to cross 10th Avenue N. within the pedestrian crosswalk and was struck by the truck. Abo was thrown onto the pavement and came to a stop on the southern shoulder of the outside lane of eastbound 10th Avenue N. After the impact, the truck continued eastbound on 10th Avenue N.Abo was hospitalized at St. Mary’s Medical Center with critical injuries. The suspect's vehicle was identified as a late model red Ford F-150 truck with possible damage to the passenger side front quarter panel and grill area. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office District 14 road patrol deputies quickly located the truck, which was abandoned in a nearby industrial area after the car accident.The driver has not yet been identified. The investigation is ongoing. 

Indian River County Deputy Saves Woman From Overturned SUV, Sinking In A Muddy Canal

An Indian River County Sheriff's deputy rescued a woman from her overturned SUV as it was sinking into the mudding waters of a canal last Saturday morning. Body camera video of the rescue was released Wednesday. It happened along the 6700 block of 57^th Street in Vero Beach where an over-turned SUV was slowly getting sucked down into the muck.Deputy Tony Le arrived minutes after it happened. He called for backup and then used a hammer to break open the window.The woman was trapped, hanging upside down and strapped into her seat by a seat belt she could not reach to unlock. The water was slowly rising.Deputy Le called out for a knife, fortunately, a bystander had one, and the deputy then cut the woman free as the water began to cover her face.Indian River County Fire Rescue arrived and placed the woman on a backboard. She was airlifted to Lawnwood Trauma Center in stable condition.

Fort Pierce Hit-And-Run Driver Found After Sideswiping Bicyclist, Fleeing The Scene

A bicyclist is in the hospital after a hit-and-run accident in Fort Pierce.Fort Pierce Police responded to the 700 block of Virginia Ave. around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday in reference to a traffic accident involving a car versus a bicyclist.Once on scene, investigators learned a car, describes as a Cadillac XT5, was traveling westbound on Virginia Ave., when it sideswiped the bicyclist.The victim suffered severe injuries and was taken to Lawnwood Hospital, where investigators say the victim is in critical condition.Detectives say the driver of the Cadillac left the scene, but the car and driver were located shortly after the hit-and-run accident.This is an ongoing investigation.
